Job Summary
The Casualty Director will lead the strategy, underwriting, or claims management for commercial liability lines, such as general liability, commercial auto, and commercial trucking. They will oversee portfolio performance, ensure underwriting discipline.
Oversee the procurement, administration, and renewal of liability insurance programs, provide support to manage claims, analyze risk exposure, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with brokers and legal teams.

The Casualty Director will lead the strategy, underwriting, or claims management for commercial liability lines, such as general liability, commercial auto, and commercial trucking. They will oversee portfolio performance, ensure underwriting discipline.
Oversee the procurement, administration, and renewal of liability insurance programs, provide support to manage claims, analyze risk exposure, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with brokers and legal teams.
Duties and responsibilities
- Coordinate with brokers and carriers to manage renewals, policy administration, and insurance documentation, including certificates of insurance and other support documentation.
- Create new casualty programs, manage existing programs. Oversee underwriting teams, sets account strategies, manages pricing for casualty products, and ensures profitability for portfolios.
- Identify, assess, and monitor property and casualty risks, implementing loss control measures to minimize exposure.
- Act as a resource subject matter expert to assist in investigation, analyze, and the resolution of casualty claims, coordinating with legal counsel.
- Ensure all activities comply with state regulations and internal policies, maintaining accurate data for reporting to leadership.
- Monitor insurance budgets, review premiums, and analyze claims data, such as loss ratios.
- Develop and manage team of Casualty Underwriters, including hiring, coaching, and performance monitoring and management
Essential Functions
- Ability to supervise and provide guidance to Underwriters and direct reports
- Ability to clearly communicate and ensure adherence to corporate policies and industry regulations
- Ability to think critically, assess risk, and make informed decisions
- Ability to effectively resolve difficult and sensitive situations tactfully, including disciplinary actions and terminations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field.
- 12 - 20 years of experience in P&C Insurance, with specific expertise in casualty underwriting or claims
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing teams within P&C Insurance
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of Casualty underwriting principles, policy forms, and market trends.
- Establishment of relationships with brokers, members, or key clients.
